Skiing in the surrounding ski areas
Directly above Sterzing lies the Rosskopf, the local mountain of the town. The ski area offers sunny slopes with a wonderful panorama over the Wipptal and can be easily reached by cable car from Sterzing. Other varied ski areas in the immediate vicinity are Ratschings-Jaufen with wide slopes and state-of-the-art lift facilities as well as the family-friendly ski area Ladurns in the Pflersch Valley, which is particularly known for its quiet location and beautiful natural landscape.
Tobogganing – winter fun for young and old
Tobogganing is one of the most popular winter activities in the region and is especially suitable for guests who do not ski. On the Rosskopf there is the longest illuminated toboggan run in Italy. The approximately 10 km long track leads from the mountain down to Sterzing and offers a unique tobogganing experience – also during floodlit tobogganing in the evening.
Those who prefer it quieter will find numerous natural toboggan runs with alpine hut experiences in the surrounding valleys. Particularly popular are the toboggan runs to the Prantner Alm or to the Allriss Alm, which impress with cozy refreshment stops and a wonderful winter landscape.
Cross-country skiing in the Ridnaun Valley and Pfitsch Valley
Cross-country skiers will find perfect conditions in the Wipptal. Particularly well known is the cross-country center Ridnaun, which impresses with a modern biathlon training center and perfectly groomed trails through an impressive high mountain landscape. Also in the Pfitsch Valley, beautiful trails await you that run through snow-covered forests and sunny winter landscapes.

Racines-Giovo/Ratschings-Jaufen ski resort
A 15-minute drive leads you from our hotel near Sterzing on Monte Cavallo/Rosskopf, through Val Racines/Ratschingstal, to the valley station of the Racines-Giovo/Ratschings-Jaufen ski resort. During the ascent with the comfortable 8-seater cable car, you can already enjoy views of the fantastic winter landscape and get excited for the wonderful day you’ll have on the slopes.
